University Lutheran Church of the Epiphany

History

Lutheran Campus Ministry (LCM) at St. Cloud State University began in February of 1956. Over the years, LCM was served by Howard Walton, Warren Jorensby, Joseph Ottoson, Sarah Nelson, David Doppenberg, Darius Larsen and Signe Gray.

University Lutheran Church of the Epiphany (ULCE) was founded in 1992 and was chartered as a recognized congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1994. Pastor Darius Larsen and Associate in Ministry Signe Gray were the campus ministers until 2003. In April of 2005, Pastor Jayne M. Thompson was called to serve as the Pastor to the campus and the congregation. She began her ministry on May 10, 2005.

LCM/ULCE has a long and cherished history of holding the ministries of peace and justice before the people of God who gather in this place and throughout the entire church. To this day, LCM/ULCE has been a Reconciling in Christ ministry of the ELCA since 1986 offering a public welcome to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, questioning folks and their allies, families and friends. LCM/ULCE also participates in many other justice and peace ministries including the Community Meal, Habitat For Humanity and Church of the Week.

LCM/ULCE continues to be a light for Christ : a candle for campus and community!

Ministries and Opportunities

Lutheran Campus Ministry

Lutheran Campus Ministry of St. Cloud is honored and blessed to have a mutually supportive partnership with University Lutheran Church of the Epiphany on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  This unique relationship has created a wonderful opportunity for outreach to the St. Cloud State University student and faculty community.  For more about LCM and its work or opportunities to assist with the work of LCM, visit our Students page or contact Pastor Jayne [pastorjmt@gmail.com] or the LCM Peer Ministry Team [lcmstcloud@gmail.com].

Our nursery is available during worship for any young one who is having trouble sitting still or just needs a little playtime.  It is always staffed with qualified, capable and caring people, most often SCSU students.  Please contact Carla in the Parish Office [lcmulce@gmail.com] with any questions.

Sunday ArtsCool

Sunday ArtsCool takes the themes normally taught in Sunday School and presents them to the students through fun arts and crafts and other activities.  Sunday ArtsCool is open to all children ages 3-12.  For more information, contact ArtsCool Coordinator Carla Westerback [lcmulce@gmail.com].

Adult Education

Join us on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month during the academic year at 9:30am for a wonderful experience every time.  All are welcome to attend.  For more information, contact Carla in the Parish Office [lcmulce@gmail.com].

Epiphany Fine Arts Program

University Lutheran Church of the Epiphany is proud to present the Epiphany Fine Arts Program, made possible by the Bremer-Thrivent Artist In Residence Grant.  This program has been established to provide a means of supporting and featuring local and student artists.  For more information about the program or artists' inquiries, please contact Epiphany Fine Arts Curator Jack Hayes.

Epiphany Arts Boutique

Display your small masterpieces, such as knit work, jewelry, cards or photos, in the Epiphany Arts Boutique here at ULCE.  The artwork is priced and profits are shared between the artist and ULCE.

The Epiphany Arts Boutique is located in the Epiphany Room.  There is also a special area for children's art.  All ages are welcome to participate.

If you are interested in sharing your art or would like more information, contact Carla in the Parish Office [lcmulce@gmail.com] or 320.252.6183.
